The Tower of Babel

This Sunday, Elder Chris continues his study through the book of Genesis. In Genesis chapter 11:1-9 we find that, about 100 years after the flood, the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. The people of the earth then decided to build a tower “whose top may reach unto heaven.” God then confounds their language so that they would not be able to accomplish this feat. Elder Chris discusses the importance of the distinction between heaven and earth, and why they are purposefully kept separate.

The Clean Animals and the Unclean Animals

5/31/20

Continuing on the theme of Noah and the ark, Elder Chris's focus today was on the clean and unclean animals that were on the ark. Contrary to popular belief, the animals that went into the ark did not all go in by pairs of two. In Genesis 7:2, God commands Noah "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of the beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female." Why did God choose pairs of two and seven? And what was the significance of God commanding not only Noah but the animals as well, to enter into the ark? All were obedient to God's command.

Eight Souls Were Saved by Water

5/17/2020

In today's sermon, Elder Chris bridges what he spoke on last Sunday in Genesis chapter 6, (God's judgment & redemption during Noah's life) with what is said about Noah in 1 Peter 3:18-22. "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him."

Judgement & Redemption

5/10/2020

This week Elder Chris took his subject from Genesis 6:1-18 where "God saw the wickedness of man was great in the earth" (verse 8) "and it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth" (verse 6) BUT "Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord" (verse . All have sinned. All sinners are under the judgment of God. BUT the children of God were redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ! Because of God's grace, there is redemption for the child of God.

In A Tight Spot

Sunday - February 3, 2020 This week Elder Chris took his subject from 2 Chronicles 20:1. King Jehoshaphat and his people were completely surrounded by three different armies. They were in a tight spot. Yet, despite the overwhelming and impossible situation they were in, Jehoshaphat turned to the Lord and had faith. Oftentimes, when we are tight spot, instead of being our first response God is our last resort after we’ve tried everything else. God should be the first one we turn to - always!

Oneness With God and Others

Sunday - December 29, 2019 "Oneness with God and Others" This week, Elder Taylor took his subject from Deuteronomy 6:1-4 and Ephesians 4:1-6. Oneness with God should be the goal of every Christian. People believe happiness is the goal, but they are mistaken. Oneness and holiness is the goal and happiness is the by-product. This applies to all Godly associations with have in this life. Amos 3:3 asks the question “Can two walk together, except they are agreed?” Oneness with God is the goal in marriage, in the church body, and in our personal devotion.

The Reason For The Season

Sunday - December 22, 2019 “The Reason for the Season” As children of God, we all experience the seasons of life. “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven” - Ecclesiastes 3:1 It is important that we recognize the now, and live in the season that is, trusting that God will make everything beautiful in HIS time. During seasons of pain, God will bless us to grow, and within that pain (and there is a purpose for that pain) God will make things beautiful.

Where Am I Going?

Sunday - December 15, 2019 - 1 Samuel Chapter 9 tells the story of a powerful man named Kish who sent his son, Saul, and a servant to go find his missing donkeys. After much searching, the servant suggests to Saul that they stop in the city and ask the Seer (also known as a Prophet/Man of God). This Seer was also known as Samuel, and Saul would soon find out that he would become the first king of Israel. Do you often wonder what your destiny in life is? What direction you should take? Does God have a plan for your life? You must listen and ask the Lord out of faith. God is aware and thoughtful of every single thing going on in your life. There are no limits to God's love and thoughts for us! God speaks to his children in many ways, but we must be open and willing to listen.

Understand God's Forgiveness

Sunday, December 8, 2019 Jeremiah chapter twenty-nine is referring to the time that Israel sinned against God and for that sin, God had the Babylonians take them captive and remain captive in Babylon for a period of seventy years. Typically, when we think of the seventy-year captivity of Israel, we think of punishment. We think of God dealing out punishment as the consequence of sin. However, in today's sermon, Elder Chris Taylor encourages the congregation to look at the story a little differently. To instead look at it as an act of forgiveness - God's rich forgiveness - and what that means to us.
